The documentary Xanadu unpacks the mystique of the first capital of the Yuan Dynasty. It showcases the pivotal position of this international capital city in the interaction and communcation between the East and the West through its architectural layout, multicultural integration (art, science, religion), and the symbiotic relationship between nomadic and agricultural civilizations, and further reveals Xanadu’s unique historical, cultural, scientific, and artistic significance.

The documentary is a time-traveling narrative that connects China and even the global civilization. It uses 3D technology to restore prosperous scenes of Xanadu, and frames the changing landscapes through the turning seasons with ultra-high-definition filming. From a contemporary perspective, it constructs a international communication mode of “history decoding - present protection - future inheritance,” promoting the dissemination, exchanges, and mutual learning of world heritage.
